Summary: Your data stays on your device and in your personal iCloud account. When you use AI features, your messages and photos are sent to our cloud service for processing but are not permanently stored. We use privacy-first analytics that collect no personal information.
Introduction
Pawcovery ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use the Pawcovery iOS application.
Data Storage
Pawcovery stores all your data locally on your device and syncs with your personal Apple iCloud account. We do not operate servers that store your personal data.
What we store on your device:
- Dog profiles (name, breed, surgery details)
- Recovery logs (exercises, daily check-ins, medications)
- Appointments and reminders
- Photos you add to track healing progress
- AI chat conversations
Where it's stored:
- On your device: All data is stored locally using Apple's SwiftData framework
- In iCloud: Data syncs to your personal iCloud account for backup and multi-device access
- CloudKit Sharing: If you choose to share your dog's recovery with family members, shared data is stored in Apple's CloudKit infrastructure under your iCloud account
AI Features
Pawcovery includes AI-powered features to help with your dog's recovery.
AI Chat
- When you send a message, your text and relevant context (dog's surgery type, recovery phase, active medications) is sent to our cloud service for processing
- If you attach a photo to a chat message, the photo is sent along with your message
- Messages are processed in real-time and are not permanently stored on our servers
- Your chat history is stored locally on your device only
AI Photo Analysis
- When you use the photo analysis feature, your photo is sent to our cloud service for AI-powered healing assessment
- Photos are compressed before transmission (max 800px, JPEG format) to minimize data sent
- Photos are processed in real-time and are not permanently stored on our servers
- Analysis results are returned to your device and stored locally
AI Timeline Analysis
- When you use timeline analysis, multiple recovery photos are sent to our cloud service to assess healing progression over time
- The same processing and non-storage policies apply as with single photo analysis
How AI processing works:
- AI requests are routed through a Cloudflare Worker (our proxy service) to Anthropic's Claude AI models
- Requests are authenticated using cryptographic signatures to prevent unauthorized access
- Neither our proxy service nor Anthropic permanently stores your messages or photos
Important: The AI assistant provides general information only and is not a substitute for professional veterinary advice. Always consult your veterinarian for medical decisions.
Device Identifier
Pawcovery generates a random, anonymous device identifier (UUID) that is stored securely in your device's Keychain. This identifier:
- Is used solely for rate limiting AI requests (preventing abuse of the service)
- Is randomly generated and cannot be linked to you personally
- Is not an advertising identifier or device fingerprint
- Is not shared with any third party
Analytics
Pawcovery uses TelemetryDeck for privacy-first analytics. TelemetryDeck:
- Collects no personal data — no names, emails, IP addresses, or device identifiers
- Uses differential privacy to ensure individual users cannot be identified
- Is fully GDPR and CCPA compliant
- Helps us understand app usage patterns (e.g., which features are used most) to improve the app
We track anonymous events such as app launches, feature usage, and subscription events. No event is tied to an identifiable user.
Data We DO NOT Collect
We do not collect, store, or have access to:
- Your name, email, or contact information
- Your location data
- Advertising identifiers
- Your iCloud account information
- Your photos (except temporarily during AI analysis, as described above)
Third-Party Services
Apple iCloud (CloudKit)
Used for data sync, backup, and family sharing. Subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
Anthropic (Claude AI)
Powers the AI chat and photo analysis features. Your messages and photos are processed by Anthropic's Claude models. Subject to Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
Cloudflare Workers
Our AI proxy service runs on Cloudflare's infrastructure. Subject to Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
TelemetryDeck
Privacy-first analytics service. Subject to TelemetryDeck's Privacy Policy.
Data Sharing
We do NOT sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
Your data may be shared only in these situations:
- Family Sharing: If you choose to share your dog's recovery data with family members using CloudKit Sharing
- AI Processing: Messages and photos you submit to AI features are transmitted to our cloud service and Anthropic for processing, as described above
- Legal Requirements: If required by law or to protect our legal rights
Data Security
Your data is protected by:
- Apple's iOS security features including encryption
- iCloud's encryption for data in transit and at rest
- Your device passcode and/or biometric authentication
- Cryptographic request signing (HMAC-SHA256) for all AI service communications
- Secure Keychain storage for sensitive identifiers
Your Rights
You have full control over your data:
- Access: All your data is visible within the app
- Export: You can export your recovery data as a PDF from the Settings menu
- Delete: Delete the app to remove all local data. Manage iCloud data through iOS Settings
Children's Privacy
Pawcovery is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy in the app and on this page.
